The pandemic is changing what we consider normal across all aspects of our lives. One thing that has not changed is the Boys & Girls Clubs mission, to inspire and enable young people, especially those who need us most.

It is with great regret we announce the cancellation of the 2020 Great Futures Gala and the 35th Annual Bruce Seligman 3-in-1 Golf Tournament. With the social distancing guidelines mandated by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, the health and safety of our community must be our number one priority. As this is a difficult time for everyone, without the income from these fundraisers—typically averaging $250,000—we are working hard to continue quality support and programming for Boys & Girls Club members in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho.

The Clubs will begin providing all-day and before and after school programs to help kids and teens navigate the uncertainty the 2020-2021 school year will bring. Understanding that at least 50% of students will not be in school on any given school day due to COVID 19 safety guidelines, this leaves many kids and teens on their own to manage online learning expectations, get themselves fed, and make good decisions about their safety and the safety of others.

Providing all-day programming, reduced staff to youth ratios, PPE equipment and cleaning supplies in response to COVID-19 has dramatically increased our costs. We have worked hard to secure grant funding along with government support for these efforts but we still have a gap in revenue to sustain services until the pandemic fades. On average, it will cost us $400 per youth, per month to provide programs. Currently we have about $300 of costs per youth secured through the school year, leaving approximately $100 per youth that we must secure through community investments.

If it is in your capacity to support our mission and programs, we invite you to join our virtual fundraiser on August 7, 2020. This event will feature appearances from influential community partners, an online auction, along with the Clubs social distance efforts, as we remain a safe place for New Mexico’s youth to engage and to reach their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

If you are unable to attend, please also consider making a donation to ensure a young person has access to quality care and support:

  • $25 - covers one week of programming
  • $100 - covers one month of programming
  • $900 – covers an entire school year of programming

**programming includes lunch and snacks for each member

All proceeds of this event will directly support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central New Mexico’s commitment to young people. Thank you for the support, be safe and remember, GREAT FUTURES START HERE.
